2nd Shoot / Patel Fog Shoot
I went to a pastel fog gallery, and as the colours of the fog were pastel and my magazine theme is pastel I thought that it would be great to do a photoshoot there.

Paper Aeroplane Front Cover
In today's lesson, I spent my time on photoshop working on making a draft for my magazine front cover. My house style is slightly changing as other colours suit better with my chosen image than the ones I originally chose to work with. I added some headings, and I still have to add more however, I'm somewhat happy with the turnout so far. I'm going to use the colours black, white, red and blue. This is because my model in the front cover is wearing these colours and by having the fonts in the same colour the cover looks more put together.

First Photoshoot
Below are the few of the images that I took during the photoshoot I carried out for my Magazine Paper Aeroplane. The shoot itself was quite interesting when I carried it out, this is because of many complications that took place, such as, being double booked and my camera dying on me mid-way shoot. However, at the end of the shoot, I got quite a few images that I really liked and I will be using them in my magazine.
As already said, my magazine is an indie rock, pop genre. As to why I tried to put my model in an costume which represents that well, even though the outfit it pretty basic, most indie outfits consist of baggy, oversized clothing, layers and dark colours. This is why I went with an oversized denim jacket, a dark red flannel and a basic white t-shirt as base. Later on, I added a dark blue and white scarf.
You can very clearly tell that I have added make-up on my model. This is only to match the theme of the magazine more. Therefore, I added eyeliner on my model, which I intended on making messy, and it smudged itself so I was happy with that as it created a careless effect. Along with that I contoured the hollows of my models cheek to create a dark and gloomy look followed by some highlight on his cheeks, to create a flow. This all created a gloomy, and serious effect which I think goes well with my theme.

Concept of the Shoot:
LSC SHOOT:
The concept of this shoot is to get images in a professional
setting. These images in particular are being shot for my front cover, as I
want to give my front cover a realistic and professional vibe, therefore I have
chosen to do this photoshoot of Kernie, who will be posing as my cover star. At
the end of the shoot, I want to have achieved professional looking images, of
Kernie.
3* GR*G*S ROAD SHOOT:
In this shoot I will be working with two models, Kernie and
Rose.
For Kernie, I want these images to look like he’s supposedly
in a party setting, therefore I have used disco lights for the different
coloured lights as this will create a chill, laidback setting. I want these
images to look like he’s having fun as the previous shoot is a more
professional and serious. It’s to show two sides of my cover star.
Just for the purpose of having images of more than one
model, I worked with Rose to also get images in a laidback and chilled setting.
I will be using images of her on my contents page.
WELLCOME COLLECTION SHOOT:
This shoot will be taking place at an exhibition at the
Wellcome Collection gallery in Euston. The exhibition consists of a room full
of smoke which is pastel coloured. I feel as the images will look very indie
and appropriate for my magazine theme. I want the images to be fun and
mysterious as there is smoke and I will probably add them to my contents page.

Plan for DPS
This is the plan for my DPS. I want my DPS to look sleek therefore I plan on having one main, eye-catching image on the left hand side of the DPS and the article on the right. I feel as most magazine which I have seen, that have this look very professional and I personally like it therefore I wanted to impose this in my own DPS. The article will take the format of a Q&A, so it will be in columns.
Plan for Contents Page
This is the layout plan for my contents page. I want my contents page to have images as I think it will make my contents page more attractive and informative, as in gives an insight and a taster of what is in the actual magazine. I also want it to look need therefore I have planned to add the images on one side of the paper and the actual contents on the other, this way there wont be any overlap.
Plan for Cover
This is my layout plan for the cover of my music magazine Paper Aeroplane. I want to have loads of cover lines, and one really big, eye-catching main cover line, I will make his look very attractive and bold. For my mage, I want there to just be one image as I want it to be the main focus of the cover, therefore I want only one image on my cover.
Cover Star
I have finally decided who I want as my coverstar. Originally I had many ideas of who could be my perfect coverstar, however... I didn't feel 100% about them but, finally I have found my main model for my coverstar.
My coverstar is a model named Kernie who is 16 years old. He has had past photoshoots done therefore, I am positive that it will be easy to work with him.
I plan on putting some make-up on him to give him the perfect look that will match my music magazine theme. He has curly hair, which I think would look really good, but I will be putting some curlers in his front hair just to enhance them more. Other than that, he has dark eyes which I will be putting some eyeliner on to make them stand out more. I want to play around with make-up to give him false eye bags, I feel like by doing that, the look will come together more, because I want the personality of this character, which I'm creating, to be carefree and real... I think by adding some 'false' flaws may make this show.
For the main shoot, I want Kernie to wear dark colours. The costume that I have in mind for him to wear for the image of the main cover consists of a checked button-up which has dark red, navy blue and white in it, this will be layed on top of a plain white t-shirt. Over the checked top, Kernie will be wearing a dark denim jacket and I may add a scarf with different blue tones on top.
The look I want to create is inspired by various Indie and Rock artists, many of them love their checked tops, with are either layed with leather or denim jackets. Along with some rock artists how like to wear eyeliner. So, this is the look I am also attempting for.

Paper Aeroplane Pitch
In this post I will be evaluating my Paper Aeroplane pitch. I feel as the pitch as a whole went pretty well, I felt nervous at the start but as the pitch went on my nerves calmed down resulting me to deliver a good pitch. I tried to make as much eye contact with my audience as I could, I did this by not trying to read off the board as much and occasionally scanning the whole classroom with my eyes. I also attempted to project my voice as much as I could so my audience could clearly hear the information I was trying to tell them. I feel as by doing these things I was able to deliver a well structured pitch.
What I think went well was that I was able to calm my nerves which allowed to me enjoy presenting infront of my audience. By projecting my voice and making eye contact I feel as I was being professional in the sense of delivering a pitch which all adds up to giving a good presentation. I was able to explain in detail what my music magazine was about in a short amount of time therefore, I feel as I did a fairly good job.
If I could improve my performance and overall pitch, I would be more careful with my definitions. As I know examiners will be watching this and it isn't appropriate to mention illegal substances which led to my audience giving me a few awkward looks, which almost threw me off, so this will not happened again. Alongside this, I may use the original power-point as it will be much clearer because slideshare made it difficult for me to read my own work when I tried to use it for assistance, which I feel slowed me down a little bit as I had to constantly take long pauses. Lastly, I would be more confident with my performance as due to nerves, I didn't get to say everything I wanted to, the way I would have. I would also add a plan of how I'm going to design my magazine, as I didn't include this, so another improvement would be to add the sketches and plans of my magazine so the audience get an idea of how I want the layout of Paper Aeroplane to be.
At the end of the pitch, I was given some advice on how to better my magazine. This was simply that I should provide content which will make my magazine apply to both genders. I will probably do this by having content that just gender neutral so both genders can enjoy the magazine. This could also be done by maybe having different male and female artists. Other than that I was told that my pitch was overall, good.

Studio Induction
Today, our media class took part in a studio induction. We were taught the different ratios for lighting, how to control a Canon DSLR, alongside a Nikon. In this session we mainly tried to focus on the 4 elements of the camera. These were, F stop, shutter speed. ISO, and white balance. On the basis of lighting, we were taught the 3 points of lights, which is, key light, feel light, and hairline light. The key light is, as the name suggests, the main source of light, this light s usually placed on the left side of the model. The feel light is placed on the right side and it is dimmer than the key light, this light is primarily used to brighten up the focus of image. The hairline light is very important as this light makes the image have a 3D impact, also this separates the model from the backdrop. We were given rough ratios for these lights too. Which were, KL: 3, FL:1.5/2 and HL: 1.5.
Below I have provided images on what the studio layout may be along with some of the equipment.
